Anya is two and growing!

Last week was Anya's two year old birthday. What did we do? Absolutely nothing. Well, that's not exactly true. I ordered pizza because I didn't feel like cooking. Anya ate two bites before spitting it out for some unknown reason. And all day long I tried to mostly do whatever it was that seemed like she wanted to do. I even took her to the mall play area for a little while as something fun to do indoors on a very chilly day. We also had previously celebrated once each in OH and IL with each of our families, so Anya did get some candles on top of something sweet, along with some presents to open, so that was her party. (If Mark had still been living with us, we would probably have baked a cake at home too, but it just didn't seem necessary after all the Christmas eating.)

Today we had Anya's two year old doctor's appointment. Anya has continued to grow at a healthy rate. She was up to 25 pounds, which puts her in the 30th percentile! That is up from 12th percentile at 18 months. Her 93rd percentile head measured at 19 ½ inches. And her height was at 33 inches, but that measurement is so random the way they do it (laying their head down on the flexible mat and stretching her leg out), so we’re not sure about that one.

Once again, it appears you still can be healthy and not eat a single fruit or vegetable on its own. Go crackers! Our doctor still wasn’t at all worried about Anya’s eating. Her iron level was just slightly low, so she said we could give her a vitamin if we wanted to, but it wasn’t really necessary.

The bad part was that Anya seemed to remember that the doctor’s office was where scary things happen. She was really scared when we first went in there and just clung to me. After her measurements, the nurse did a finger stick for the iron level and Anya was really upset by that. She did not like having a band-aid on her finger, but she was bleeding, so we tried to keep it on for as long as possible. She cried for pretty much the entire visit, which is not normal for her at all. Usually, she is just quiet and charming, but this time she was really shook up. Luckily she wasn’t due for any shots, so we didn’t have to add that trauma to the visit. But unluckily, she is due for one in a month, so I’ll have to take her back just to do that one. I am curious to see if she goes with us for the new baby’s visits if she will be scared then, too.

When I was a kid my parents always bribed me with ice cream after a visit to the doctors. Some how that always made it a bit better.
