third time's a charm?

we caught mouse #3. apparently afternoon is prime hunting season. i wasn't here to hear the trap, so I'm assuming it happened after we left the house post-naps.

yes, i spent most of today escaping our house again. morning at playgroup, lunch with steve, home to nap and live in fear of the mice, and then heading out to run as many errands as i could think of before 6pm. steve got home after we did and checked the traps finding one of the under the sink ones to have done the trick.

of course, i'm relieved we caught this one, but i don't know how long it will take me to resume a normal life. that is, assuming we don't find another mouse. if we do see one, then all bets are off and i'll be hitting the streets again for sure.

side note - several people have asked how anya has reacted to the mice or to my reaction to the mice. she definitely knows that i am scared. but i'm not sure she really has a concept of what is going on. she did ask me, "is there a real mouse in our house or one like for the computer?" she has seen the mouse traps and knows that we've been "setting" them and "checking" them, but remarkably, she has not asked us what actually happens to the mouse. what would we answer?

she also told me that she wasn't scared of mice and that she likes when they crawl on her because they are soft. obviously that has ever really happened. that just gave me the creeps to think about and i seriously couldn't stand hearing her talk like that. i'm sure she would be pretty spooked if she actually saw a mouse, but i have to admit that i had no shame in sending anya or evan walking into the house or kitchen area ahead of me to scare off any mice that might be lurking too close for comfort. aren't i a great mom?

only once did anya act like she was the least bit negatively affected. she said she wanted me to carry her to the car because she didn't want to scare the mouse. that's right, she said SHE didn't want to scare the mouse, not the other way around. when asked, she admitted that she didn't want it to scare her either, but i think she felt more sympathy for the mouse.

the kicker was that she was obsessed with checking out this book, Midas Mouse, at the library yesterday.

seriously. she picked it randomly off the shelf. and i refused to let her check it out. some other moms overheard at least part of our discussion and they looked at me like i was awful not letting my child pick out her own book. never mind the 32 other ones i was fine with. but i just couldn't handle a book about mice with a real mouse photography. no freakin' way.

LOL!! You crack me up!! Super hilarious - I had to read the excerpt to Mark about you sending Anya & Evan walking in front of you to scare off the mice.

I hope you got 'em all. Well, actually only sort of - because I love reading all your mice entries...

Okay, that's not nice. So I'll really hope that they are really all gone. :)

That's hysterical about the book. We'll have to check that one out. :) I'm so glad you caught #3.

(the other Hilary)

I hear mice can fit through a hole the size of a quarter. Wonder where they're coming from?

I bet those moms at the library were like "you should have seen this mom at the library... she wouldn't let her little girl check out this adorable book about a mouse..."

Hope they are all gone forever!!!
