Quick basement update
After two very hard weekends and some evenings in between, we have a lot to report on from the basement. We'll hope to get pictures up later, but for now I just wanted to give you a brief update. The weekend before this past weekend we mainly focused our efforts on painting. On Friday evening, we stayed up until 1:30am to prime the two closets and the bathroom. On Saturday, we painted the two closets and the bathroom and primed the bedroom. On Sunday, we took another marathon 3.5 hour trip to Home Depot for more supplies. We had planned on grouting the shower on Sunday, but after shopping, we just didn't have the energy for that project, so we just did a bunch of miscellaneous other things, mainly to do with electrical, plumbing, and stair railing.
Then Steve was gone for a few days for work and I didn't really get anything done on my own.
This past weekend, we were on a mad dash to get the electrical and plumbing finished enough to have an inspection before the expiration of our building permit this Wednesday. Luckily, Steve had off work on Monday for Presidents' Day, so we were able to get a ton of things done between Friday evening and Monday evening, including all the electrical, plumbing, heating, shower grouting, and almost all of the remaining priming (family room and hallway) that needed to be done with a brush.
And this was all done with Anya to entertain, so we were very pleased with our progress. She did great considering how much time she spent in the basement this weekend. We can't wait until the basement is somewhere she wants to go...somewhere with carpet and not somewhere you have to wear special "basement clothes" to play in.
This morning we had our inspection and we passed on all the electrical and plumbing! The only thing they have to come back and look at is the stair railing, which is not finished. But having our inspection today automatically extends our permit for another six months. And I can confidently say that I think that will be enough time...at least for the stair railing.
