March 15, 2014

Today Steve and I took Anya and Evan back to the Engineering Open House.  A big thanks to Jeanie who stayed at home with Nora all day.

The Engineering Open House is always a favorite family event.  Every year we try some new events and visit some of our favorites.  And every year there are some exciting discoveries and some disappointments.

This year we tried out some more hands-on exhibits.  We got to do an Egg Drop where the kids got $10 pretend "egg drop bucks" and could buy supplies to create their egg drop contraptions.  We then went downstairs and outside to watch them drop from the second story.  Both of our eggs did not survive intact.

We also participated in a similar "bridge building on a budget" competition where Anya and Evan "bought" materials to construct bridges which were then tested to see how many cups of pennies they could hold.

We also got to make spaghetti towers, competing for either the tallest or the strongest tower.  Steve and Evan went for tallest.
Anya went for strongest.  They kept changing the rules on us, so we didn't construct it according to the official rules, but we still tested it out and it supported a lot of weight.
We ended the day with the robot competition.
A long, but fun, day!

Did Anya wear her hat all day? It looks really good on her.
