Anya will turn five on Monday! To celebrate her birthday she got to choose the activity. She chose to go to the Denver Children's Museum. This is actually the same thing she chose for her four year old birthday. That day was something that came and went in blogging history without a post. I still have all the photos, of course, but they have never been shared. Oh well, no regrets, right?
So, here we go with the five year old trip to the museum. Anya and Evan (especially Evan) were really overwhelmed at first and had a lot of trouble deciding what to do. Anya eventually tried out a few things she had remembered from before, but wasn't really having that much fun. Evan was just lost and not having a good time at all. We don't see this side of Evan very much because we don't go a lot of places with a lot going on. But he gets really overwhelmed (just like the rest of his family) by large groups of people. We eventually went to the little kid part where both of them could finally relax a bit more. It ended up being a really fun day for everyone involved, even Evan. But it just reiterated why it doesn't always work for us to go places with other people. Our kids are so slow to warm up to anything that by the time everyone else is crashing and ready to go home, we are just getting started. Luckily, we understand this about our own children and have learned to stick it out and not just go home when they seem like they'll never enjoy it. And almost always, they end up having fun. But we spent tons more time in the museum than the average family.
So, here are the photos from our day. Steve and I took about 50/50, but he definitely deserves credit for the shots of Anya jumping.

These last two photos were from in the evening after we returned home. At the museum, Anya and Steve made this little lunch box out of an old milk carton. When we got home, she made all this pretend food for her lunch box (yogurt with spoon, cookies, apple, sandwich in a bag, and grapes made by me). She set up everything at her table with a name card just like at school. The photo above that one is her all dressed up in her "car seat" (bumbo) going to school.
